Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the postponement of discussions with representatives of the Karbi community, attributing the change to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state. The talks, initially set for today, will be rescheduled soon, with Sarma assuring the Karbi community that their issues remain a governmental priority.

In a statement on 'X', Sarma conveyed that the deferral was due to the Prime Minister's historic trip, scheduled from January 17 to 18, where Modi is expected to engage in significant cultural events, including the Bodo heritage celebration at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, the event, named "Bagurumba Dwhou 2026", will feature over 10,000 artists performing traditional Bodo dances, highlighting Assam's rich cultural tapestry. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the first Vande Bharat Express sleeper train between Kolkata and Guwahati, marking a major milestone for regional transportation.
