The BJP Parliamentary Board has taken a strategic step by appointing Tarun Chugh, the party's national general secretary, as the central observer for the upcoming election of the legislature party leader in Manipur. This decision is viewed as a precursor to the formation of a popular government in the restive Northeastern state.
NDA MLAs from Manipur were summoned to New Delhi for discussions, as the state's current governance under President's rule nears its expiration. The rule was imposed following significant ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities, leading to a state assembly suspension despite its elected term until 2027.
The BJP central leadership has been engaging in separate dialogues with Meitei and Kuki MLAs, as well as coalition partners like the NPF and NPP, to ensure a supportive political environment for government formation. Meetings are also planned with key political figures, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state president A Sharda Devi.
