Speaking to the press, Meghachandra highlighted the absence of a special crisis package in the Union budget, underlining the urgent needs of the affected communities.

The unrest, stemming from a tribal march against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status, has resulted in at least 260 casualties and widespread displacement since May 2023. The state has been under President's Rule for over a year, with local leaders criticizing the lack of decisive national support.

Meghachandra emphasized that Manipur demands responsibility from the nation, not charity. He urged the Centre to address the crisis through substantial rehabilitation efforts and infrastructure rebuilding, stressing the importance of the state to national unity and security.
