Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde has upped the ante against BJP minister Ganesh Naik, throwing down a challenge for electoral combat. This latest move rekindles the longstanding animosity between the two influential political families, each possessing strongholds in different regions of Maharashtra.
Shrikant Shinde, the three-time elected representative from Kalyan and son of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, dismissed Naik as a political adversary battling age-related health problems. This verbal joust follows Naik's declaration that he would render Shrikant a 'former MP'.
The rivalry is particularly pivotal for Thane and Kalyan, territories dominated by the Shinde family, whilst the Naiks hold sway over Navi Mumbai. Despite being allies in some civic elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena remain adversaries on several battlefields, underscoring a complex political landscape.
