Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday expressed his deep concern over President Droupadi Murmu's "painful and sad remarks" regarding the handling of the International Santal Conference in West Bengal. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that tribal cultures, traditions, and voices require sincere respect and acknowledgment.

In a detailed statement shared on social media platform X, Kalyan highlighted the importance of ensuring dignity, participation, and respect when organizing events celebrating the heritage of the Santal community. He pointed out the regrettable circumstances where Santal community members could not attend the conference intended for them.

Kalyan remarked that such cultural gatherings must demonstrate inclusivity, sensitivity, and effective administrative planning. The office of the President holds the highest constitutional authority, necessitating utmost regard during her visits. He underscored India's tribal communities as integral to national identity and pride, stressing their cultural importance.

The controversy emerged following President Murmu's disappointment over the 9th International Santal Conference arrangements. She questioned the venue choice and noted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's absence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed the sentiment, accusing the TMC of disrespecting the President and tribal communities. The TMC, however, denied protocol lapses, clarifying the event was privately organized.
