Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday confronted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, challenging him to a public debate on the governance records of their respective governments. Speaking at a rally in South 24 Parganas, Banerjee accused the BJP of engaging in 'cheap politics' by involving the President in political discourse.
Banerjee highlighted economic issues, alleging BJP's mismanagement has burdened every Indian child with a debt of over Rs 1.4 lakh. He criticized Amit Shah's claims about West Bengal's financial health and questioned BJP's respect for the President, citing past photographs highlighting contradictions.
Addressing women's safety in BJP-ruled states, Banerjee referred to NCRB data showing high crime rates. He accused the Centre of withholding funds for essential projects in West Bengal, claiming the regional government had to fill the gaps. Banerjee called for a debate on governance records between the Modi and Mamata Banerjee administrations.
