Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who faces charges in three sexual assault cases, has put his political future in the hands of the party. Having returned to his constituency after securing bail, he reiterated his loyalty to the party despite his expulsion. Mamkootathil stated that any decision to contest the upcoming election would be based on the party's directive.

When questioned about contesting the election, the former MLA said he had made no firm declaration. Mamkootathil highlighted his 18-year political journey, noting that he held office as an MLA for only a brief 1.5 years. He emphasized that being a public representative is significant, especially in a constituency like Palakkad.

Mamkootathil, absent of local ties, was elected by Palakkad's populace with a record margin, showcasing the constituency's commitment to secular values. He declined to comment on reports of the Congress possibly fielding actor Ramesh Pisharody for the seat. The allegations against Mamkootathil revolve around purported promises of marriage made to the women involved.
