Ahead of the pivotal West Bengal assembly elections, former Indian cricketer Ashok Dinda expressed his appreciation to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for granting him another chance to contest. Dinda, the BJP MLA for Moyna constituency, pledged to further development efforts in the region. As voting unfolds in two phases on April 23 and 29, the contest is set to be a significant showdown between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
In a statement to ANI, Dinda remarked, "I don't care what TMC says; what matters is the people's opinion. I am thankful to the BJP for their trust, and I value my hard work." He acknowledged the BJP leadership's initiatives, such as the introduction of a rail line to Moyna and a proposed fire brigade. In the meantime, the BJP has announced its preliminary list of 144 candidates for the assembly elections.
Among the notable candidates is Suvendu Adhikari, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition, who will contest from Nandigram and Bhabanipur. Other prominent BJP candidates include Agnimitra Paul in Asansol Dakshin, Rudranil Ghosh in Shibpur, and Bankim Chandra Ghosh in Chakdaha. With 294 seats at stake, the BJP intends to disclose additional candidates shortly.
