Aminul Islam, who served with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for 20 years, has resigned as vice president, citing personal reasons just before the pivotal assembly elections in Assam. Islam regards AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal as a mentor and holds no grievances against him.
Islam, currently suspended for alleged 'anti-party activities', suggests his candidacy will depend on his constituency's demands. He was accused of supporting rival parties, with suspicions he is planning to join an opposition outfit. AIUDF's recent candidate list announcement did not include him, further intensifying speculations.
Meanwhile, the AIUDF has declared Badruddin Ajmal as a candidate from Binnakandi, gearing up for the assembly elections set for April 9. The BJP-led NDA, aiming for a third term, will face a challenge from the Congress, which intends to regain power. High stakes continue to fuel fierce political battles in Assam.
