Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his critique of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a rally in West Bengal on Sunday, accusing them of betraying the ideals of 'Maa, Maati, Manush' and urging public support to end what he called the state's 'jungle raj.' Modi's speech, delivered at a Vijay Sankalp Sabha ahead of the assembly elections, promised substantial gains for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
The Prime Minister claimed the TMC's governance has left West Bengal's cultural and economic resources vulnerable to exploitation by syndicates and infiltrators, while causing suffering to its people. He urged voters to replicate the high turnout and support from the first phase of polling in the subsequent round, set for April 29, to ensure a BJP victory. Modi emphasized the historical significance of West Bengal, invoking the spirit of Subhas Chandra Bose and calling for electoral support to restore the state's glory.
Addressing the industrial decline in West Bengal under TMC administration, Modi criticized the rampant corruption and syndicate culture hampering economic growth. He lamented the decline of industries along the Hooghly River, attributing it to the 'jungle raj' of TMC where 'even a low-ranking minister acts as the government.' The first phase of polling recorded a notable 91.78 per cent turnout, reflecting robust voter engagement. The second round of polls is scheduled for April 29, with results expected on May 4.
