In a controversial clash of politics and religious sentiment, Goa Congress leader Girish Chodankar finds himself at the center of an FIR, which he alleges is politically motivated. On Sunday, Chodankar endured a three-hour police questioning session linked to a social media post he claims targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and not Hindus.

The FIR, filed against Chodankar, stemmed from his attempt to highlight pollution caused by offshore casinos in the Mandovi river, using a quote from an 'aarati.' However, a faction named the Hindu Ekta Samiti accused Chodankar of distorting a Durga 'aarti' and protested outside the state police headquarters.

Chodankar, along with tribal leader Govind Shirodkar and social worker Warren Alemao, now face charges in separate cases for allegedly hurting religious feelings. Chodankar, who appeared at Mapusa police station, contends that the legal action is designed to exert political pressure on him, underscoring the complex interplay of politics and religion in the region.
