Trends indicate a close contest in the Assam Assembly elections, with both the BJP and Congress showing significant leads in several constituencies. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress President Gaurav Gogoi are reportedly leading in their respective regions.
The ruling BJP has gained an advantage in 17 constituencies according to early trends, while their rival, the Congress, is ahead in eight. Notably, party switchers such as Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Borah, who joined the BJP, are leading in critical constituencies like Dispur and Bihpuria.
Polling took place in all 126 assembly constituencies on April 9, enjoying a substantial voter turnout of 85.96%. The Election Commission is yet to announce official figures, as counting continues at multiple centers across the state.
