In the electoral race for the Nowda seat in Murshidabad district, Humayun Kabir, the leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), is currently leading over his closest competitor, Sahina Momtaz Khan of the TMC. According to the Election Commission, Kabir maintains a lead of 2,890 votes following the initial round of ballot counting.
There are still 19 more rounds of counting to go, leaving the final outcome open to change. However, Kabir's early lead is significant, particularly in light of his recent political history.
Kabir, who founded the AJUP last December, made this move after his suspension from the TMC subsequent to his controversial proposal to build a Babri-style mosque in Beldanga, a decision that has played a role in shaping the current political dynamics.
