In a politically charged statement, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, declared the BJP's ambition to seize control in the forthcoming state elections. His remarks came as he prepared for a re-election campaign from Nandigram, in direct contest with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur constituency.
Adhikari suggested a shift in voting patterns, claiming that Muslim voters have not overwhelmingly supported the TMC, the party in power. He envisions a parallel trend emerging in Bhabanipur, indicating potential gains for the BJP in this key constituency.
Confident in his prospects, Adhikari predicted victory, stating he would gain substantial lead by the ninth or tenth round of counting, attributing this to a consolidation of Hindu votes favoring the BJP.
