The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is showing significant progress in the Assam Assembly elections, as trends released by the Election Commission indicate a lead in 48 constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a key NDA member, is spearheading the charge with an advantage in 39 of these seats.
Meanwhile, the Congress party trails with leads in only 11 constituencies. Key political figures such as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of the BJP and State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi are leading in their respective strongholds of Jalukbari and Jorhat. Allies of both major parties are also marking their presence.
The counting process began early, incorporating postal ballots first, and is taking place across 40 centers in all 35 districts. With a historic voter turnout of 85.96%, the election held in a single phase on April 9 demonstrates robust democratic engagement in Assam.
