Karnataka's electoral landscape in Bagalkot and Davanagere South is giving rise to a heated contest between the Congress and BJP. The bypolls, conducted on April 9, are seeing a steady lead for Congress at Bagalkot and BJP at Davanagere South as vote counting progresses.
The necessity for the polls arose following the unfortunate demise of senior Congress MLAs H Y Meti from Bagalkot and Shamanur Shivashankarappa from Davanagere South. In Bagalkot, Umesh Meti, representing Congress, is leading the pursuit with a margin of 9,969 votes against BJP opponent Veerabhadrayya Charantimath.
Meanwhile, in Davanagere South, the BJP's Srinivas T Dasakariyappa is maintaining a lead of 8,539 votes over Congress's Samarth Mallikarjun. Bagalkot saw nine candidates vying for the seat, while Davanagere South fielded 25 contenders, highlighting the fierce competition in these political heats.
