As vote projections began to unfold, Banerjee claimed that the Election Commission had halted counting at several locations.

She accused the Election Commission of India and central forces of bias, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pushed past the halfway mark in the state assembly according to early leads. In a self-recorded message, Banerjee implored her party’s counting agents to remain at their posts.

Banerjee insisted that the Trinamool Congress was leading by over 100 seats, contrary to reports, alleging that the counting halt was a strategy to benefit the BJP. As trends suggested a defeat for her party, the BJP celebrated its lead, amidst an unprecedented voter turnout since independence.
