Veteran BJP leader Hitendra Nath Goswami defeated Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi by over 23,000 votes in Jorhat. In a significant political victory, BJP leader Hitendra Nath Goswami secured a decisive win in Jorhat, defeating Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi by more than 23,000 votes. This victory marks Goswami's sixth term in the state assembly, solidifying his status as a seasoned politician with a focus on grassroots campaigning.

Goswami's political journey began during the Assam Agitation, where he emerged as a student activist. He was initially elected as an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate in 1991 and served in the AGP-led government until 2001. Goswami later joined the BJP in 2014, where he continued his legislative success.
