In a significant political victory, BJP leader Hitendra Nath Goswami secured a decisive win in Jorhat, defeating Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi by more than 23,000 votes. This victory marks Goswami's sixth term in the state assembly, solidifying his status as a seasoned politician with a focus on grassroots campaigning.
Goswami's political journey began during the Assam Agitation, where he emerged as a student activist. He was initially elected as an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate in 1991 and served in the AGP-led government until 2001. Goswami later joined the BJP in 2014, where he continued his legislative success.
Throughout his political career, Goswami has relied on his extensive organisational skills and voter outreach initiatives to maintain his influence. As a result, he effectively retained the Jorhat seat for the BJP while staying largely out of the media spotlight during his recent campaign.
