Congress Party's Triumph: A Comeback in West Bengal
The Congress party won the Farakka seat and is leading in Raninagar, marking a resurgence after failing to secure a single seat in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. Motab Shaikh, excluded initially from electoral rolls, won decisively against BJP and TMC candidates in Murshidabad district.

The Congress party marked a significant victory on Monday by winning the Farakka seat and maintaining a lead in Raninagar. This comes as a comeback following their 2021 West Bengal assembly election performance, where they failed to win any seats.
Motab Shaikh, initially omitted from the electoral rolls but later included by a Supreme Court-appointed tribunal, defeated his closest BJP competitor by 8,193 votes. The TMC candidate finished third in this intense contest within the Murshidabad district.
According to the Election Commission data, Shaikh amassed 63,050 votes, surpassing BJP's Sunil Chowdhuri's 54,857 votes and TMC's Amirul Islam's 47,256 votes. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Julfikar Ali led in the Raninagar seat by 4,182 votes after 14 rounds of counting against TMC's candidate, Soumik Hossain.
