Akhil Gogoi Retains Sibsagar: A Political Journey of Resilience

Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi secured another term in the Sibsagar assembly, defeating BJP's Kushal Dowari by a significant margin. Despite previous imprisonment under UAPA, Gogoi's persistent fight against corruption and the Citizenship Amendment Act has cemented his influential political presence in Assam.

Akhil Gogoi, leader of the Raijor Dal, has successfully retained his seat in the Sibsagar assembly, triumphing over the BJP's Kushal Dowari by a margin of 17,272 votes despite earlier setbacks during the counting process.

Gogoi, a key figure in Assam's political landscape, previously held the Sibsagar seat as an Independent MLA. His political career gained momentum from the Tengani land rights movement, which supported erosion-displaced families, and the formation of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), which exposed major scams and led protests against significant issues in Assam.

Gogoi's arrest under UAPA during the anti-CAA protests and his subsequent election win from jail in 2021 highlights his enduring influence and commitment to challenging the BJP's governance, further demonstrated by his continued opposition post-release.
