The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a resounding victory in the Assam assembly elections, securing a significant three-fourths majority. The BJP alone achieved a two-thirds majority, clinching 81 seats and leading in one more within the 126-member assembly, according to the Election Commission's latest updates.

BJP's allies, the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), bolstered the alliance with 10 seats each. In contrast, the Congress party managed to secure 15 seats and is leading in four, while the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) garnered one and two seats respectively.

In a notable setback for Congress, its leader Gaurav Gogoi lost the Jorhat constituency to BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami by an impressive margin of 23,182 votes. The election marked the BJP's highest tally in Assam to date, with Himanta Biswa Sarma contesting as Chief Minister for the first time. Prime Minister lauded the party's success, attributing the victory to an emphasis on development and the positive impact on people's lives, while expressing gratitude towards the Assamese populace.
