Assam's Political Landscape Shifts: CM Sarma to Resign for New Government Formation

Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma plans to resign after the state assembly election results, facilitating the formation of a new government. The NDA alliance, including BJP, Asom Gana Parishad, and Bodoland People's Front, won a clear majority. The Congress, with only 19 seats, won't claim the opposition leader post.

In Assam, a significant political transition is on the horizon as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma prepares to resign following the assembly election results. The resignation is a strategic move to pave the way for a new government formation.

The election results saw the NDA coalition, comprising the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad, and Bodoland People's Front, clinching a decisive victory. The coalition secured 102 out of 126 seats, with the BJP alone winning 82. Such a robust majority underscores the electorate's trust in their leadership.

Sarma indicated that, following his resignation and the submission of election results to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, new BJP MLAs will convene to select their legislative leader. Notably, the Congress fell short of securing the minimum seats required to appoint a leader of the opposition, altering the assembly's political dynamics.
