Mamata Banerjee, leader of the Trinamool Congress, has rejected the outcome of the recent West Bengal assembly elections, alleging the results were a conspiracy and not reflective of the people's mandate. The BJP secured a significant victory, claiming 207 seats out of 294, ending the TMC's 15-year reign.
Despite the election results, Banerjee has refused to resign as chief minister, which leads to a constitutional dilemma, as there is no precedent for a defeated leader not stepping down voluntarily. She claims the voting process was manipulated, particularly criticizing the Election Commission.
As political tensions escalate, Banerjee is also focusing on fostering ties with the opposition INDIA bloc while maintaining her stance on investigating alleged post-election violence. The West Bengal Governor may have to intervene to uphold constitutional protocol.
