On Wednesday, the Congress demanded that repolling be held in 50 assembly seats in West Bengal, citing alleged electoral manipulation. The party claims the BJP's actions led to the deletion of votes, altering the election outcomes in favor of the ruling party.
Pawan Khera, a Congress leader, accused the BJP of deliberate manipulation of electoral rolls, compromising democratic institutions, and effectively snatching the fundamental right to vote from citizens. Khera added that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) led to the deletion of 90 lakh voter names in West Bengal, calling it a 'manufactured verdict.'
The Congress hopes for intervention from the Supreme Court and insists that re-elections occur in the affected constituencies. They allege that the electoral process has been compromised not only in West Bengal but also in Assam and other states, pointing to a broader democratic crisis needing immediate address.
