Political tensions flared in West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district, as BJP supporters staged dramatic road blockades on Thursday following the murder of Chandranath Rath, an aide to Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was gunned down in North 24 Parganas, allegedly sparking conspiratorial allegations against the ruling TMC from opposition leaders.
The incident unfolded when Rath was intercepted and fatally shot by motorcycle-borne assailants in Madhyamgram. The situation remained highly volatile, although under control, as police and central forces closely monitored the area. Despite the unrest, the protests tapered off after 30 minutes as police convinced demonstrators to withdraw.
