Senior BJP leaders in Jharkhand on Saturday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on taking oath as West Bengal's first BJP chief minister and expressed confidence that the state would witness a new era of good governance and development under his leadership. Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and former chief minister Babulal Marandi wished Adhikari a successful and development-oriented tenure. ''We are confident that, under your leadership, West Bengal will advance towards a new era of good governance, security, investment, employment and cultural pride,'' Marandi said in a post on X. Adhikari took oath as West Bengal's first BJP chief minister at the iconic Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP's central leadership and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states seated on the capacious rostrum, Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari amid chants of ''Jai Shri Ram'', drumbeats and a sea of fluttering saffron flags. ''I am fully confident that this BJP government will take West Bengal to new heights of development, good governance, and security, and will write a new chapter of peace, prosperity, and progress in the state,'' Jharkhand BJP chief Aditya Sahu posted on X. Extending best wishes to Adhikari, former chief minister Champai Soren wrote on X, ''Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and your leadership, West Bengal will set new benchmarks in good governance, development, and progress.'' The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule in the state. Senior Congress leader and former party chief in Jharkhand, Rajesh Thakur, extended his wishes to the new Bengal CM. ''I would like to appeal to him that, as Rahul Gandhi says, 'we must open a shop of love in the market of hatred', he should work in this direction. There should be no place for violence anywhere. The people of Bengal are peace-loving and the new government should work towards that direction,'' Thakur said.
