The Punjab BJP has voiced strong opposition to the state election commission's decision to utilize ballot papers instead of EVMs for the upcoming local body elections. The demand for reversal was led by Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar amidst allegations of election manipulation.
Jakhar, supported by prominent BJP leaders, accused the ruling AAP government of conspiring with the state election authorities to manipulate electoral results. He highlighted that the decision was made without consulting any political parties, breaking longstanding electoral conventions.
The controversy follows similar allegations during the Panchayati Raj institution elections. Jakhar warned about potential irregularities in ward delimitation and voter list access, urging a return to EVMs to ensure transparent and democratic elections.
