Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, has launched a fierce critique against the central government, led by Narendra Modi, following the sudden rise in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre. Gandhi claims this increase is a direct consequence of the government's missteps.

The price surge marks the first adjustment in over four years and has been attributed to the worldwide escalation in crude oil costs, spurred by the Iran conflict. CNG prices in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai have also seen a rise.

Despite keeping retail fuel prices fixed to protect consumers from exorbitant global energy costs, this hike, coming after the elections, has led the opposition to allege political motivations. Fuel prices have now soared to their highest since May 2022.
