UPDATE 1-Taiwan president to hold news conference to mark his second year in office

Taiwan ​President Lai ‌Ching-te will hold ​a news conference on Wednesday ‌morning to mark his second year in office, the presidential office ‌said on Tuesday.

In addition to ‌delivering remarks for the anniversary, Lai will outline the administration's "future national vision ⁠and policy ​direction", ⁠it said in a brief statement. The ⁠news conference comes as China, ​which views the island as its ⁠own territory, steps up its ⁠military ​and political pressure, and after U.S. President Donald Trump ⁠and China's Xi Jinping discussed Taiwan during ⁠a ⁠Beijing summit last week.
