R V Deshpande, a senior member of the Congress and Chairperson of the Administrative Reforms Commission, announced that Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, intends to resign. This decision comes after Siddaramaiah reassured the party high command of his commitment to step down, despite pleas from fellow MLAs for him to remain in office.
The Chief Minister's residence became a hub of activity as ministers and legislators gathered to persuade Siddaramaiah against his decision. However, Siddaramaiah stood firm, stating that his assurance to the high command would guide his actions. Reports suggest a potential leadership change favoring Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, with Siddaramaiah potentially taking on a central party role. The decision comes amid discussions held in Delhi.
Deshpande noted that the CM may finalize his resignation by Thursday, after a scheduled breakfast meeting with his cabinet. The transition reflects ongoing directives from the Congress high command who have offered Siddaramaiah a possible Rajya Sabha position.
