In a significant political development in Karnataka, D K Shivakumar, who was recently chosen as the leader of the state's legislative party, has approached Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan to express his intention of forming a new government. This comes after his election as the state Congress president and leader.

Shivakumar was supported by several key figures, including outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and AICC general secretaries K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala, as he prepared to step into his new role. His swearing-in ceremony is set for June 3, marking the official commencement of his leadership. Siddaramaiah had resigned earlier in the week and Gehlot has since dissolved the previous Council of Ministers.
