D K Shivakumar's political rise from the village of Dodda Alahalli to becoming Karnataka's Chief Minister is a testament to his enduring commitment to the Congress party. Often called 'Kanakapura Bande' for his strength, he has consistently been the party's key strategist, overcoming personal and political challenges with resilience.

Shivakumar entered the Assembly in 1989 and has remained undefeated in eight successive elections. Steadily, he emerged as the principal Vokkaliga leader within the Congress, one of Karnataka's predominant communities. His adeptness in political management was underlined in 2017 when he secured the loyalty of 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs, crucial for Ahmed Patel's victory in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Despite facing legal pressures, including detention and investigations, his loyalty to the Congress has only deepened. This unwavering dedication led to his appointment as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president in 2020, a critical period that saw a Congress revival under his leadership in the 2023 Assembly elections, gaining 134 out of 224 seats.

His strategic prowess once more came into play during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he improved Congress's standing from one to nine seats in Karnataka. As the Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress president, he's poised to influence the state's political landscape further, illustrating his integral role as a pillar of the Congress party in Karnataka.
