Authorities in West Bengal have detained four individuals suspected of assaulting Abhishek Banerjee, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, during his recent visit to Sonarpur. The arrests were carried out following overnight operations guided by collected video evidence.
During the visit, Banerjee faced hostility as crowds hurled projectiles and hurled abuses at him in South 24 Parganas. Allegations have arisen from Banerjee and his party against BJP activists, suggesting an assassination attempt.
The situation escalated with physical altercations, prompting immediate action from security forces. Despite the chaos, no formal complaint had been registered by Banerjee or his party, prompting the police to initiate a suo motu case.
While Banerjee received treatment at a Kolkata hospital, TMC leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, condemned the alleged involvement of BJP members. Conversely, BJP's state president denied any party involvement, attributing the incident to local grievances.
