French Jets Scrambled Amid Baltic Tensions
French warplanes have been frequently scrambled as part of NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission due to a rise in airspace provocations. The mission aims to protect the airspace of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania from potential threats, including recent Russian military aircraft activities.
In a heightened state of alert, French fighter jets have been scrambled 11 times within the last week, part of NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission, according to France's armed forces spokesperson.
The increased number of operations is attributed to 'provocations,' possibly linked to Russia’s desire to project strength during the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The situation raises concerns, especially following incidents involving military drones invading Finnish and Baltic airspaces, amid fears of Ukraine conflict spillover into NATO territories.
