In a landmark decision, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has nominated Han Seongsook as the country's prime minister. If confirmed by parliament, Han will be South Korea's first female prime minister in two decades.

Han, who has previously served as the CEO of the South Korean internet giant Naver, will bring her expertise in technology to the role. Her nomination comes at a time when South Korea is focusing on AI transformation and inclusive growth, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Although the position of prime minister is mainly ceremonial and administrative under the current system, Han is expected to play a crucial role in steering the country's economic policies towards inclusivity and sustainability, according to Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff.
