Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan led a crucial meeting on Monday to scrutinize preparations for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. The focus was on strengthening security, enhancing transparency, and prioritizing student convenience following recent allegations of paper leaks.

During the meeting, which lasted over 30 minutes, the Home Secretary instructed state governments, Union Territories, and central agencies to implement stringent security protocols. Emphasizing zero tolerance for errors, he highlighted the need to avoid the irregularities that necessitated a re-test at certain centers.

Among the attendees were top officials from multiple ministries and security agencies, including the Railway Board Chairman, who pledged support by offering additional train services if needed. Discussions centered on improving surveillance, secure transport of exam papers, and stringent monitoring to prevent malpractices.

The involvement of high-ranking officials and multiple central forces indicates a robust, multi-layered security strategy to rebuild public confidence. The NEET paper leak has sparked nationwide protests and raised concerns over examination integrity, making systemic reforms a pressing issue.

The re-examination aims to reassure stakeholders and protect the repute of NEET, India's gateway to undergraduate medical courses, after the May 3 testing was scrapped due to leaks, affecting nearly 2.28 million candidates across 5,000 centers. The re-test is scheduled for June 21.
