‘On the Radar’: Australia Warns White Supremacists

White supremacists in Australia have been warned and authorities are watching them in the wake of the Christchurch mosques terror attack.

Mike Pezzullo, the Home Affairs secretary made these comments before a parliamentary committee. Pezzullo said his department had rededicated itself to standing resolutely against the extremist ideology of white supremacy. "You are on our radar and you will not be able to incite the racial strife that you seek."

Two days before the Christchurch incident, Pezzullo, in a press conference, identified seven 'gathering storms' most likely to threaten Australia's national security. It didn't include home-grown right-wing extremists. Since the terror attack, the Australian Home Affairs Department has been working with ASIO, AFP and other agencies to assist New Zealand with the investigation.

Meanwhile, extremists have been told that they cannot work for the Home Affairs. This comes at a time when a political staffer helped Senator Fraser Anning write a controversial speech. He has since been sent on leave. Pezzullo said those with extremist views were not welcome in his department. "Any association with groups that vilify minorities, that either normalize or incentivize violence is completely abhorrent."

Pezzullo said their duty is to uphold the law including laws in relation to violence, murder and the like.
