The Biden Cancer initiative started by former Vice-President Joe Biden is suspending its operations as the election campaigns heat up, according to the media outlet Statnews.
The non-profit organization grew out of the White House cancer moonshot, a program created by President Obama and led by Biden. Biden's son Beau died of glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, in May 2015. The cancer moonshot was unveiled later that year with the goal of speeding up the development of new treatments. The nonprofit promoted nearly 60 partnerships with drug companies, health care firms, charities and other organizations that pledged more than $400 million to improve cancer treatment.
The Biden Cancer Initiative announced 57 new commitments from the public and private sectors on September 21, 2018, during the Biden Cancer Summit. These innovative programs and partnerships focus on data sharing, patient support, education, and empowerment, research, clinical trials, access to care, disparities, and prevention and early detection.
While the initiative is being shut down, Biden has expressed its confidence in the Obamacare and has released the plan to Protect & Build on Obamacare.
The Affordable Care Act was a historic achievement. 20 million Americans gained coverage. Over 100 million with pre-existing conditions finally got protection. We can't tear it down.So today, I'm releasing my plan to Protect & Build on Obamacare: https://t.co/RIhlOcOWK8 pic.twitter.com/laDUcIhRjM
