NRC authorities come under fire in Assam Assembly

The authorities responsible forupdating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam cameunder fire from ruling BJP members in the state Assembly, whoexpressed doubt whether a correct NRC will be published

The treasury bench members claimed that the rate ofexclusion of NRC applicants in the districts borderingBangladesh was less than the state average - 12.5 per cent

This is a proof that a section of the people residingin border districts of Assam has wrongly been included in theNRC, they said and criticised the State Coordinator ofNational Registration (SCNR), who is responsible for updatingthe register.
