Sultry weather conditions persisted in Haryana and Punjab on Sunday, with maximum temperatures hovering above normal limits at most places.

Despite rains during the day in Narnaul, Hisar and Bhiwani, their maximum temperatures settled at 40 degrees Celsius, 39 degrees Celsius and 37.1 degrees Celsius respectively, the weather office said.

Gurgaon and Rohtak registered their maximums at 36.8 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius respectively, it said.

The mercury settled at 32.8 degrees Celsius and 32.2 degrees Celsius in Ambala and Karnal respectively, the weather office added.

In Punjab, Faridkot recorded a high of 39.5 degrees Celsius, Amritsar 37.6 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 35.2 degrees Celsius and Patiala 34 degrees Celsius.

Union Territory Chandigarh's maximum settled at 32.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.
