The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Corbyn's Cove beach in Port Blair on Wednesday.
Tourists, tour operators, lifeguards and police personnel were among those who participated in the programme, organised by the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Tourism.
''Andaman and Nicobar Islands have great potential when it comes to wellness tourism. We believe that more and more people from the islands and tourists will participate in such programmes, and make this archipelago the wellness capital of India,'' AATO president M Vinod said.
''We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to the programme. This event not only promoted yoga but also showcased the captivating beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We extend heartfelt gratitude to our members, lifeguards, tourism stakeholders, and the Andaman and Nicobar Police who wholeheartedly supported us in making this event a great success,'' he said.
The celebrations began with a session on the importance of healthy life and mental peace, followed by the practice of yoga overlooking the picturesque shores of Corbyn's Cove beach.
A team of instructors guided the participants through various yoga postures and breathing exercises.
