U.S. forecaster sees 55% chance of La Niña conditions in June-August 2024

There is a 55% chance that La Niña weather conditions developing during Northern Hemisphere summer in June-August 2024, a U.S. government weather forecaster said on Thursday. The La Niña pattern is characterized by unusually cold temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean and is linked with floods and drought.

There is a 79% chance that a transition from El Niño to ENSO-neutral is likely to occur by April-June 2024, the forecaster said.
