Yellen Advocates Rare and Well-Communicated Currency Interventions
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen emphasizes that currency interventions should not be routine, advocating for their rare use and clear communication. Speaking ahead of a G7 finance ministers meeting, she highlighted the importance of using interventions primarily in response to market volatility.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Thursday that currency interventions should not be a "routine" tool to address imbalances and should be used only rarely and in a well-communicated way.
"We believe that intervention should be rare, when it occurs it should be communicated in advance and if it occurs, largely should be in response to volatility in currency markets," Yellen told a news conference a head of a G7 finance ministers meeting in northern Italy.
