A fire broke out at a sanitary napkin factory in the Bhiwandi area of the district in the early hours of Tuesday, according to a civic official. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The blaze started at the factory in the Saravli industrial area around 3 am, said Raju Warlikar, an official from the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation disaster management cell.
Fire brigade teams from BNMC, Thane, and Kalyan-Dombivli quickly responded to the emergency. They managed to bring the fire under control by 8.30 am. Although there were no injuries, the raw material stored in the factory was gutted. Cooling operations are ongoing as the cause of the fire continues to be investigated.
