Assam Flood Crisis: Over 4 Lakh Affected, Rising Danger

The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Thursday as one more person lost their life and over four lakh people were affected across 19 districts, according to an official bulletin.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that a person drowned in the Khairabari area of Udalguri district.

This brings the death toll from this year's floods, landslides, and storms to 36. Over 409,300 people remain affected in districts including Bajali, Baksa, and Barpeta. Karimganj is the worst hit with 2.5 lakh people affected.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that many tributaries of Brahmaputra are dangerously full, yet the main Brahmaputra River hasn’t crossed danger levels. Relief camps and distribution centers are operational, aiding thousands with necessities.
