Imphal West district administration has issued a high alert for residents near rivers, cautioning them about possible breaches due to escalating water levels from relentless heavy rainfall, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

A notification from the Office of District Magistrate Imphal West on Monday night stated, ''Major rivers in the district have reached warning levels in the Imphal area.'' The statement further highlighted continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of Imphal and Nambul rivers, with the IMD forecasting ''heavy to very heavy rainfall activity in Manipur for the next five days.''

The public, especially those near river fronts, banks, or courses, are advised to remain vigilant for potential breaches. The Imphal river, the largest in Manipur valley, poses significant flood risks under the current weather conditions.
