Rising Waters of Assam: Eight More Lives Lost Amidst Worsening Flood Crisis

The flood situation in Assam worsened, claiming eight more lives and affecting over 16.25 lakh people across 27 districts. The total death toll due to floods, landslides, and storms this year has risen to 56. Three more individuals are feared washed away in Sonitpur, Sivasagar, and Golaghat districts.

The flood situation in Assam continues to deteriorate as eight additional lives were claimed, impacting more than 16.25 lakh people across 27 districts, according to an official bulletin released Wednesday.

The daily flood report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) noted that two victims perished in the Tezpur revenue circle of Sonitpur district, while one each drowned in Mayong of Morigaon, Naharkatia of Dibrugarh, Pub Mangaladi of Darrang, Dergaon of Golaghat, Halem of Biswanath, and Margherita of Tinsukia.

This brings the total fatalities from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms to 56. Additionally, three more individuals are feared to have been washed away in Sonitpur, Sivasagar, and Golaghat districts, putting more than 1.625 million people at risk across numerous regions.
