Himachal Pradesh shivers as temperature falls; 2.7 degrees Celsius recorded in Shimla

The cold wave sweeping Himachal Pradesh intensified Wednesday even though the state capital was warmer than some parts in the neighbouring plains of Punjab and Haryana. The minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 2.7 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT Centre.

In Haryana's Hisar, the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 1 degree Celsius, while that in Amritsar and Ludhiana in Punjab was 1.5 and 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, Director, MeT Centre in Shimla, Manmohan Singh said. He said most parts of the state reeled under severe cold, with tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong being the coldest place in the state, witnessing a low of minus 11.1 degrees Celsius. Manali, Solan, Chamba, Kalpa, Seobagh, Sundernagar and Bhuntar were shivering at sub-zero temperatures, Singh added.

The minimum temperature in Kalpa was recorded at minus 4 degrees Celsius, followed by Manali minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, Seobagh minus 2.7 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar minus 1 degree Celsius, Solan minus 0.7 degree Celsius and Chamba minus 0.4 degree Celsius, he said. The minimum temperature in Dalhousie was 1.6 degrees Celsius, he added.
