In Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, heavy rains led to a lake breach on Friday, resulting in the evacuation of more than 100 villagers to safer locations. Emergency measures included the use of an excavator machine bucket to transport a pregnant woman across a flooded 'nullah' and damaged roads.
The deluge caused water to inundate homes and a residential school in Suryapalli village, leading to the evacuation of 112 people, including 76 students. A Gadchiroli District Disaster Management official stated, “Sironcha has received 180 millimetres of rainfall since late Thursday night, which has damaged roads and caused some areas to be cut off.”
Gadchiroli Collector Sanjay Daine convened a meeting with the District Disaster Management Cell to ensure immediate relief, including road repairs and the creation of alternate routes. In Kudkeli village, a pregnant woman had to cross an overflowing drain in an excavator bucket after an ambulance could not reach her location due to the flooded roads. She was later safely taken to a hospital.
