King Charles, known for his lifelong commitment to environmental issues, has taken proactive steps to promote sustainability within the royal household. Palace officials revealed that solar panels have been installed at Windsor Castle, with plans for future expansions, and the royal family's Bentley cars are set to be converted to biofuel as an interim measure before transitioning to electric vehicles.

These green initiatives are revealed as part of the annual report on the Sovereign Grant, which details the king's taxpayer-funded expenditure and income. The report showed that official expenditure for 2023-24 was £89.1 million, slightly higher than the allocated £86.3 million, leading to the use of reserves. Notably, there was a 17% decrease in overall expenditure compared to the previous financial year, thanks to reduced property maintenance costs.

Additionally, the report highlighted an increase in supplementary income to £19.8 million, driven by a resurgence in ticket sales for royal palaces. The royal family also plans to invest in two new helicopters, deemed necessary to replace the aging fleet and maintain efficiency in their engagements. Travel costs for the household amounted to £4.2 million, with the most significant expense being the king's state visit to Kenya.
